Piramides de Teotihuacan

Last weekend, we drove to Teohuatican to visit the 'must see' pyramids when in Mexico. It's almost unbelievable that just 1.5 hours away from the smoggy city, away from the maddening crowds, stands two enormous structures built in 100 BCE. Honestly, I can't even begin to understood or explain how long ago that was. But it was impressive and it was breathtaking, not just the expansive view that unfolds when you enter the archaeological site but the actual steep climb up to the top of Pyramid of the Sun, the 3rd largest pyramid in the world. Sera made it up all by herself, and Yassy climbed unto Johan's hip halfway up. It was as expected, crowded, it being the weekend and then at every corner you see and hear vendors trying sell their trinkets, mostly unrelated to the pyramids or Teohuatican itself. Ahh, did I just say we escaped the maddening crowds?

All the same, it was another unique experience for us. We'll definitely return for another visit, maybe on a weekday, just to get a more thorough and quiet sense of Teohuatican and her pyramids.
