This peace out montage is dedicated to papa, who taught me how 'cool' it is to flick my fingers out while posing! Right.
The celebration of the (mis)adventures, the mundane, and the magical moments of my family. Join us as we gypsy around the world. It gets manic sometimes but we figure we can't go wrong as long as we stay close together and embrace every moment of every day ... Relax, take it easy!

The longest weekend ever
I welcomed the weekend with some anxiety. I'm going to sound like a 'baby' but you see, since Yasmin's arrival, there was always someone to tend to Sera, be it Johan, grandma or oma and opa when they were here on a visit. This weekend, for an extended amount of time, I had the challenge of looking after both girls without my mama dearest. Gulp! I was determined to try, somehow.
It didn't bode well when Sera, an hour or so after waking up on Saturday, started to show signs of a drippy nose. Groan. Yup, and it just got worse. Sera when sick, is slightly less cheery but now with Yasmin around, she appeared to be more clingy and wanted my attention. So it was me carrying Yasmin in one arm and Sera strapped to my leg. It was a 'desperately comical' juggling act and oh, did I also mention I was nursing the last bit of a sore throat and a cold? By the time mama came back from her errands, I was totally totally defeated. Ha ha.
Sunday morning, I woke up, still traumatised from the day before. Again, grandma had errands to run so this determined mama was going to try her hardest to make it a pleasant morning for all. It wasn't too bad ... hey, maybe with more practise, I could just wing it!
Monday morning. It started early with Yasmin refusing to go back to sleep after her last morning feed. So while I played with her in bed, in walks Sera.
"Where's grandma?" (hmm, this girl can be quite the bossy little one hey?)
"Sweetie, grandma had to go out for a while."
"To buy food for Sera?" (grandma = one who provides for her daily nutrition)
"No, she had to run an errand with uncle Greg."
"Uncle Greg?"
"Yes, Isaac and Aaron's papa."
"Isaac and Aaron at Cho kong's house?" (Cho kong's house is where she meets them on Saturday evenings)
"Yes Sera."
Yasmin by then, needs my attention so I start to prepare her for her bath. Sera tails me closely, still hot in her barrage of questions.
"Mama, I want milk."
"Ok, but after breakfast."
"I want breakfast ... cheese and bread and milk."
"Ok, but can I first bathe Yasmin and then mama will prepare your breakfast."
"Ok."
"I want breakfast .... I want cheese, bread and milk ... " (Groan ... her understanding of waiting and concept of time is still premature, I guess)
So for the next 10 minutes or so, while I try to give Yasmin a semblance of a bath, I try to pacify my lovely first daughter who was apparently ravenous. Sera's escalating 'I want breakfast' chanting had agitated Yasmin to a point of a screaming fit. I'm sure she loves Sera to bits but her thunderous voice can often times, undo her. Sera eventually got her breakfast - bread, cheese and milk. Phew. I looked at the clock and it was only 7.30am. What time did mama say she was coming back?
Mama did come back as promised (bless her!) and I hurried out to the doctor's. I was sick. Truly. My throat felt severely inflamed and my nose was creating massive havoc. The doctor prescribed me medicine but no MC. Shucks!
I'm feeling a little hazy at the moment, could be from a lot of things other than the medication. Yasmin is asleep. Sera is out with mama on an errand. Honestly, how did our grandmothers handle 6, 8, 10 kids? They must have been or became 'truly insane'!
Saturday morning. I get Sera to cook for her 'friends'. So while I was carrying Yasmin, I instruct her to bring out her table, chairs, soft toys and her cooking set. Time spent playing: about 10 minutes.
Saturday night, 10.30PM. I'm practically sleeping while sitting on the floor, playing with her. Why isn't Yasmin asleep yet?
Sunday afternoon. Grandma resorted to this, letting them sleep together. Grandma was trying to put Yasmin to bed, Sera too wanted to sleep but wanted Grandma to put her to bed. So she decided both should share the bed. Genius but it was a little tricky.
Sunday early evening. We took the girls for a walk in the compound. Sera was clearly better, running around and even sneaking to the edge of the pool.

After 6 weeks
If I had to name our girls the way the Native Americans name themselves, it most certainly would be ...
'Sera smiles a lot'
'Yasmin drinks a lot'

Saturdays at great grandpa and grandma's
Saturday evenings are spent at my grandparent's house. The whole family gathers so there's many people, lots to eat and of course, a lot of noise. And Sera loves going to Cho Kong and Cho cho's house for that very reason. She'll spent the whole Saturday asking to go to Cho Kong's house because she knows what's in store. All her uncles, aunties and cousins (between the ages of 3 and 10) would be there, most of the time teasing and refusing to play with her (ha ha, typical boys!). And all her grandaunts and uncles giving lots of attention. Ah, what more could she ask for!
Just before we left for Cho Kong's house, she tends to her baby, swaddling her in a nappy and singing to her

The noise makers
Since she discovered talking, Sera has not stopped talking. Then she discovered singing, and nothing can stop the singing. The 'noise' that comes out from Sera is, to put it mildly, voluminous. But she is entertaining, especially so when she sings to Yasmin, the other noise maker.

An un-Sera Day
Yesterday, to start the day, it rained ... just in time to match the mood that Sera was in. Blue and grey ... sad.
Her face carried a worried and anxious frown.
"Sera, papa took an airplane and it 'zoomed' to Dubai."
"And in 4 weeks time, we will also go on an airplance and 'zoom' to Dubai to see papa. Would you like that?"
"YESSSSSSSSSS" (a big smile that crept all the way to her eyes)
But her excitement about zooming to Dubai was fleeting because she got uneasy when her papa wasn't eating breakfast with her or taking her to the bathroom to wash up after breakfast. There began her un-Sera day ...
So on an un-Sera day, this happens ...
So this morning, I asked her where Johan was and with cheerful understanding, she said
"Papa is in an airplane and zoomed to Dubai!"
The most important phone call she was waiting all day ... she refused to let me talk to Johan, grasping the phone with all her might. She even candidly told Johan about her 'un-Sera' day ...
"WHERE'S PAPA???????"
Her face carried a worried and anxious frown.
"Papa zoomed on an airplane?" (wide eyed and slightly puzzled)

So on an un-Sera day, this happens ...
- She doesn't start the morning with a big smile
- She doesn't get excited about breakfast
- She refuses to wash up after breakfast
- She doesn't want to help me keep the laundry
- She doesn't want to play with her puzzles, just wants to watch TV
- She doesn't want to eat her lunch
- She doesn't want to go for a walk
- She doesn't want her dinner

Into the 'wild'
One more family excursion before Johan takes off to Dubai ... Pasir Ris Park. Ha ha, just a stone's throw away from our apartment but it was like going into the 'wild', especially with Sera's fearless imagination. Along with 'crocodiles' in the Api Api river, she somehow found a monkey in every other tree (there was only one lonely one), chickens and roosters (this we all saw), and ponies of many sizes and colours. Now that sure was a satisfying 'wild walk in the park' for all of us.
When she came face to face with a real animal, like these sweet ponies, she kind of froze up. Ha ha, our little 'brave heart'. It took much coaxing to get her to stand near Johan.

Time out at East Coast Beach
We did it! We successfully spent a relaxing morning out at the beach with both the girls. We even managed to take a stroll along the beach without Yasmin screaming in protest because she was in the pram. I suspect the sea breeze must have made her so sleepy to care. We spent the rest of the morning, lounging outside a fast food joint, while Sera had a good time playing with the other kids, whose parents were doing the exact same thing ... ha ha.

Morning with the girls
Every morning, despite our routinely bad sleep, we somehow tear our weary bodies away from our hardly laid on bed, to the smiles of our charming girls. Sigh ... this, I guess, is what you would call totally delirious and smitten parents.

So much so that she sleeps within minutes after her bath

One month later

Today Yasmin is one month old. Usually, in the Chinese custom, the child's first month is celebrated with some fanfare. Well, as you will see, we didn't go that way. Last Saturday, we bought a 'Strawberry Divine' cake and celebrated Yasmin's one month with the rest of the family. By the way, if you can't tell ... those wordings were done by us too. ha ha.
Our first family photo. Yasmin, the reason for the cake, was fast asleep but Sera gladly pulled up the chair and guarded the cake
It's really easy to get Sera to smile but not so with Yasmin, well not just yet. Here, the sisters cuddle in the morning before Sera heads off to school

Fake snow and pink ice cream
Today we had a field trip to 'Snow City'. While I waited for all my friends to arrive at school, I hung out at the playground with my friends.

We took a bus all the way to Jurong and during the bus journey, we sang songs to wake ourselves up as the bus ride was quite long. Once there, we had to dress up in identical, oversized winter wear which was quite humorous. Grandma called me a little orange bear!

Then we were made to wear snow boots that were extremely heavy and two sizes too big for me. And my hands were 'swimming' in gloves.

And it just got worse when they made me wear this pink helmet! Who are they kidding, people who lived in cold countries don't dress like this? Yes, laugh your heart out ...

As you can see, I was practically falling backwards. My poor neck was overstrained from trying to stay balanced without looking too ridiculous. Here I am, with my classmate, practising to walk with all the gear.

What you don't see here is grandma and I sliding down the snowy slopes on a inflatable rubber ring. Weeeee ... it was super fun! The helmets were put to used after all. That's me stroking the penguins. I knew they fake but they were cute, nevertheless.

Next, we went to an ice cream making factory where we got to make our own ice cream. Cool!

We waited and waited, and all I got was this small cup of very pink ice cream. Grandma didn't let me have more because she was a bit alarmed by the too pink ice cream. All right grandma, even I agree with you!

I had a great time today at Snow City with my friends. Thanks grandma for going on the field trip with me, you were great fun!
